After a tiresome day battling bureaucrats and boredom I arrived home tonight to discover my signed copy of Rob Kitchin’s second work of fiction, The White Gallows, awaiting me. Having a much anticipated new book to read is pleasure enough but to discover that some of my words about Rob’s first novel, The Rule Book, were quoted in the publicity blurbs made me do a little dance of joy (be grateful you didn’t see that as I really have no sense of rhythm). This is a first for Reactions to Reading and a totally unexpected but quite delightful consequence of deciding to jot down my thoughts about books on this blog 18 months ago.
Aside from the fact I loved The Rule Book (I rated it a 4.5 out of 5) and enjoy reading Rob’s crime fiction blog. The View from the Blue House, I feel quite connected to The White Gallows already having watched the cover design be selected, then refined and hear about how Rob missed his book’s launch due to the untimely eruption of an Icelandic volcano.
The White Gallows is officially released on 12 June so you’ve just got time to do yourselves a favour and read The Rule Book before then.
